The Youth Tour is an all expense paid week-long trip to Washington D.C. scheduled for June 12-17, 2010.
Students on the Rural Electric Youth Tour learn about electric cooperatives, American history and the U.S. government. They attend educational seminars, visit with their representatives in the House and the Senate, and see the sights around Washington D.C.
Area High School Sophomores and Juniors (not just dependents of members) compete for this opportunity to participate by submitting a typed essay, 500 words in length on the following topic: "What can you do to incorporate energy efficiency into your life? What should Humboldt County REC do to promote the efficient use of energy?" Students must also complete the application form located on the right under resources. Please, attach a photo of yourself, a school picture is fine. Essay, application and photo deadline is March 5, 2010.
The top 3 students will be called for an interview at the REC office. One student will be chosen to attend the Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., June 12-17, 2010.
