- Moves heat using a refrigerant and coils, much the same way a refrigerator works
- In the winter, the heat pump’s outside unit captures heat that exists naturally in the atmosphere and transfers it to the inside unit, where it is amplified to warm a home or business
- In the summer, the process is reversed to remove heat and excess humidity and provide a cool and comfortable setting
- Does not rely on the combustion of fuels like oil, propane or natural gas
- Can deliver up to three times more heat energy compared to the electrical energy it consumes
- Some new models produce hot water for the home or business
